Chapter One
Dominic
“She knows the deal right?” I spoke louder than needed into the speaker of my iPhone. I was helping my best friend Mason’s little sister Blair move into her new apartment across town. It had been five years since I last seen her but if she was anything like she was the day, I left for the Army, something told me I wasn’t in for much other than an attitude.
“Yes, she does.” Mason’s voice dipped low as he responded. “If she gives you any shit remind her that this was part of the agreement since I can’t be there.” I rolled my tongue running it against my teeth. The thought of meek Blair making a fuss did nothing but make me laugh.
“Jesus man, why are you so overprotective…?” The question lingered over the phone as I pulled into the high-rise apartment complex that she was moving into. It wasn’t mere coincidence that Mason had Blair moving into the same apartment complex as me.
“You’ll understand when you see her. It’s been five years Dom, a lot can change.” He sounded like he knew some secret that I didn’t.
“Mase I’m more than aware. I went from being a punk ass kid to a badass recruitment officer for the US Army. I should get an award for the most fucking change.” Okay, I was being boastful. I was still very much the same asshole I was before I ever left.
“Whatever…” Dom laughed into the phone. It was a short laugh, but one long enough that I could almost see his smile through the phone. “Let me know how everything goes, and please, please don’t do me, wrong man.” I rolled my eyes, refusing to grow a pussy. I missed Mason every day. He was my best friend.
“I miss you too…” I commented like the asshole I was before he hung up.
“I’m sure you do. Bye.” Click. I pulled the phone away from my ear and stared at it for a moment.
Why the fuck was I doing this again? Oh yeah, because Mason was my best friend, and he had begged me to watch over Blair the brat that refused to leave us alone back when we were in high school.
I ran my fingers through my unruly brown hair, realizing I needed a haircut badly and probably ten hours of sleep since I looked like I hadn’t slept in days.
“It’s not a beauty contest…” I mumbled under my breath as I got out of the truck and smoothed a hand down my Henley t-shirt. The air was humid, and the heat from the sun couldn’t even be enjoyed when the weather was like this.
“Get the back, Cindy.” I heard a voice I recognized off in the distance. My heartbeat sped up as I locked the truck and headed towards the voice.
Mason had said Blair changed, and as strange as it was I was curious to see just how much she changed.
My eyes dilated, and the oxygen in my lungs stilled as I took in the two women moving a piece of a brown sectional couch.
“Explain to me why you picked out the largest sectional on the planet when you’re going to be living alone…” The blonde woman who I assumed was Cindy grunted. Now that I knew the blonde was Cindy that meant the other one the one I couldn’t take my eyes off of was Blair.
Her hair was dark, almost black, and her ass… I shook my head. I shouldn’t be staring at her ass no matter how perfect the globes looked in her short ass shorts.
“Can I help you?” Blair’s voice rung in my ears, as I stood there staring at the two of them for a moment. She was beautiful the braces she once had were gone now, leaving behind perfectly straight, white teeth. Her lips were full and ready to be kissed, and her tits, fuck her tits were huge.
“Actually the question you should be asking yourself is, can I help you…” I wiggled my eyebrows teasing her from the start just like I did when we were kids. It was evident that she didn’t recognize me yet.
Blair rolled her green eyes as if to show how annoyed she was by my presence. “Thank's asshole but we’ve got it…” My teeth ground together at her mouthy comment.
“Really small fry? That’s how you talk to your best friend in the whole wide world?” My fists clenched together at my sides. Even though I hated to admit it, it bothered the hell out of me that she didn’t notice me the same way I noticed her.
Had I changed that much?
“Dominic?” Her voice dropped as her eyes widened. She was taking me in from top to bottom the same way she used to when we were kids.
“At your service small fry…” I smiled, winking at her friend. Blair’s face fell then, and a mask dropped into place when she looked at me again.
“Don’t call me that. Mason said you might come, even though I told him I didn’t need any help. I can see that he thought otherwise.” Confidence seemed to ooze from her. Didn’t she know I didn’t care about the front she put up? I had known her since we were itty-bitty kids, and nothing said could off put me.
“Correct. Mason thought it would be best if you had my help and it seems as though he was right based off of what I’m seeing here…” I gestured to the sectional piece that was sitting on the floor of the parking garage.
I could see Blair was getting pissed, and even if that wasn’t my intention I relished in the fact that I could still get underneath her skin.
“Mason doesn’t know shit, and he shouldn’t have sent you in his place because we…” Blair gestured to Cindy and herself before walking up to me, her head coming up to my chest. “Don’t need you…” Her tiny little pink fingernail poked against my chest and I almost busted out in
laughter.
“You don’t intimidate me small fry…” I bent my head leaning into her face. Her smell was intoxicating, and a cross between freshly baked apple pie, and vanilla.
Fuck I wanted to take a bite out of her.
Her green eyes narrowed, “Don’t. Call. Me. That.” She gritted out each word. Damn her and her stupid little attitude.
“Hello, what the hell are we doing here?” Cindy her blonde haired friend interrupted. Come on things were just getting good.
“Nothing,” Blair answered for both of us. I couldn’t help but smile at the angry that flickered in her eyes. Why did she seem so upset with me?
“Whatever. If you don’t want my help then I’ll just be on my merry way…” I shoved past Blair my shoulder slamming into hers. An electrical current zinged through me stopping me dead in my tracks.
“Wait where are you going, isn’t your car back that way?” Clearly, she didn’t feel the same zing of need that I just had.
I licked my lips, wanting more than ever to see the expression on her face when she found out that we both lived here now.
“Oh, Mason didn’t tell you…” I tilted my head to the side a bewildered expression marred her perfect features.
“Tell me what?” She growled. Her friend, rolled her eyes at our back and forth banter.
“I live here too. Actually, we live on the same floor.” Take that Ms. Attitude. I thought to myself taking in her expression. Yeah, she was pissed.
“Are you kidding me?” She gritted her teeth. A strange feeling filled my belly. One that begged me to be the man to put her in her place, to take her upstairs to my apartment and spank her ass until she begged me to stop.
“Nope small fry. No kidding here. I’ll be upstairs if you need me. Apartment number sixty-nine.” I pressed the button for the elevator and a second later the doors opened. When I stepped inside I turned around, my eyes colliding with Blair’s before the doors closed.
Anger reflected back at me and I smiled.
That’s right small fry, be angry.
Chapter Two
Blair
Rage wasn’t a normal emotion for me but I was feeling it far more now that I knew Dominic lived in the same complex as me. Plus the fact that I was still attracted to him after all this time just added insult to injury.
“Who is he? How do I not know about him, and who is he?” Cindy was way too interested in Dominic.
“He’s my brother’s best friend, and the guy I crushed on all the way through high school.” Admitting the last part was the hardest since I never told her about my secret obsession with my brother’s best friend.
“Whoa, wait. You had a crush on that stud?” I nodded my head yes as we stepped into the elevator with the sectional couch piece we had been trying to carry up before Dom interrupted us.
“Why the hell didn’t I know about this?” Cindy shoved me in the arm as we sat the bulky piece on the floor. We were going up to floor six so I couldn’t just say I’ll tell you later.
“It's my past. We'll it was my past. Obviously, Mason thought I needed some watching over since he set me up in the same complex as Dominic.” Cindy stared me down both of her hands on her hips.
“You both just about started me on fire with the looks you were giving each other.” I rolled my eyes watching the numbers go up. It was obvious as to why Mason pushed so hard for me to move in here. Dominic could watch me for him and make sure I didn’t do anything he would disapprove of.
“Shut up. There is nothing going on. He is annoying as hell and did I mention Mason’s best friend…” I gave her a disbelieving look. She was crazy if she thought I was going to give him a chance.
“Oh come on, he’s hot as hell, military obviously, and I can tell he likes you as much as you like him.” My jaw ached as I ground my teeth together in frustration.
“I do not like him, Cindy!” I growled, right as the door to my floor opened. A couple waiting for the elevator gave us a judgmental expression as we lifted the sectional piece and made our way out of the elevator.
“Oh you do, you totally want his dick.” Cindy teased. I dropped the sectional piece on the floor outside my door, giving Cindy no warning as I did so.
“Jesus…” She grunted as the weight of it pulled her down.
“Stop siding with him. You’re supposed to be my friend. Not his.” I pouted, unlocking the door. The door across the hall opened up right then, revealing my worst nightmare.
“Oh, what a surprise it is seeing you here Blair,” Dominic smirked, his eyes colliding with mine. God, why did he have to be so handsome?
“Go to hell.” I shot over my shoulder, gesturing for Cindy to head inside the apartment with the piece of furniture. We made it half way through the door before getting stuff. Just my luck. I sucked in a deep breath trying to calm myself.
“Looks like things are going well…” My blood boiled at his comment. Yeah, he was most definitely still an asshole.
“Why don’t you come help us instead of standing there and watching us struggle.” I hissed adjusting my hold on the furniture. I could feel Dom’s eyes on me.
“Only if you say please…” His words were laced with amusement. If this was his way of welcoming me after being gone for years he had a fucked up way of showing it.
“Please.” I gritted out. I was so calling Mason later and telling him what his asshole friend had done.
“Of course, why didn’t you say that before?” I could practically see his lips twitching into a smile even though I was facing Cindy. His fingers grazed mine as he moved alongside me to take my position. His body was hot, and his scent was maddening. Again, I didn’t understand how I could still be attracted to him after all this time. Something was wrong with me.
“Lift up for me Cindy.” He quipped, and she did so holding the piece higher up so that he could maneuver it through the doorway. Relief flooded me when we finally made it into the apartment with the damn thing.
“Holy, I actually busted a sweat.” Cindy laughed, wiping her forehead with the back of her hand. Her cell started ringing right then, and I took that moment to slip into the kitchen and get something to drink.
“You’ve got a nice place here…” Dominic started.
“Yeah while it would be much nicer if you weren’t here.” I shot back, hoping my words would sting just a little bit. I knew Dominic had some knowledge of the crush I had on him all those years ago, which if I was being honest with myself would be the primary reason for my snarky attitude, aside from the fact that my brother doesn’t think I’m adult enough to live alone.
“I would say the same to you as well, but I actually like the view that you bring…” His eyes burned with an emotion I didn’t quite understand. It wasn’t unlike Dom to flirt, which is what he was doing right now. He leaned against the wall his thick muscled arms were left on full display, as was his perfect dimpled smile.
“Yeah, I’ll be there in five minutes…” I caught Cindy saying into her phone and knew my night was about to get ten times worse.
“Please tell me you aren’t leaving me with ego manic over here?” I gestured to Dom. Cindy gave me an I’m-sorry look.
“Sorry babe, there isn’t anything I can do. My mom needs someone to watch the kids until Luke gets there and I can’t leave her hanging. I’m sure Dominic will keep you good company though…” Her voice dipped low and her eyebrows wiggled as if to say we would be getting it on or something.
“Whatever. Text me later.” I sighed, watching as she walked towards the door. I still had a ton of shit to move in. I was hungry, and Dominic was lingering.
“Guess it’s just me and you small fry…” I gritted my teeth his pet name was getting under my skin.
“Stop calling me that. It was fine when we were like ten but now, no.” I turned on him realizing all too soon how close he was to me. My eyes moved to his full lips, and then over his face. He was thinking exactly what I was thinking. I could see the mischievous sparkling in his eye
s.
“What are you going to do about it? Small… Fry…” He drug the nickname out, his teeth scraping over his bottom lip as he did so. My body was on fire, my panties were soaking wet. How could I go from wanting him out of my sight to wanting to kiss him in a matter of seconds?
“I….” I stumbled over my words. Dominic made me feel like that timid girl I used to be. Without thinking I did something I was sure I was going to regret. I reached up and wrapped a hand around his head pulling his face into mine. I could feel the heat from his breath fan against my lips as I slipped my fingers through his unruly hair. He was soft and hard, and perfect, and such a fucking asshole it wasn’t even funny, but I wanted to kiss him. Really wanted to kiss him.
“What are you doing Blair?” He pulled me from my thoughts, his voice was low and seductive and I could tell as our eyes met that he wanted this just as much as I did.
“What I should’ve done year ago…” I whispered against his lips, as I pressed my full ones against his. An explosion of emotions rocked through me. I was feeling happiness, fear, and anxiety all at once and yet I couldn’t stop. Instead, I moaned into his mouth, letting him pick me up off the floor and place me against the marble counter between his legs.
My lips tingled as he gently moved his against mine. The fire in my belly seemed to mount begging me to take things another step further, but was I really ready to do that? I knew Dominic but did I really know him, like I used too?
“Fuck Blair, your lips against mine have already got my cock harder than steel.” He growled cradling my head in his hand as he kept our lips just barely touching one another’s.
“Remember how badly I used to want you? I would’ve done anything for a moment like right now all those years ago.” The need to let Dominic possess me was almost consuming.
“I know, and I was too fucking stupid to realize it. That and your brother would, well will kill me when he finds out about this.” Every single piece of me was begging for me to let go and fall into Dom’s arms. Could I kiss him and forget about everything between us until tomorrow? I could right?
